Cyndie Widmer

Like many artists, Cyndie began her love of drawing and painting as a child and has combined her skills as an illustrator and graphic designer throughout her career to continue this life-long passion.

In 2003, she began studying at the Washington Studio School in Washington, DC to pursue fine art. Her subject has often been the figure, but her fondness for nature entices landscape painting “en plein air.” In 2002 she and her husband purchased property near Digby, Nova Scotia and in 2010 built their cottage. Since then they have spent their summers enjoying the wonders of the Bay of Fundy and surrounding areas. The local harbors and villages have captured Cyndie’s attention and she has been busy recording the beauty and culture that surrounds her.

All of her paintings begin by observing a scene, object or figure that elicit an emotional response she then captures through light, color, value and shape that lock together to form the composition. Cyndie is forever searching for new ways to ‘see’ and depict movement and spatial relationships to define the subject, yet she is intensely aware of the value of allowing the viewer to complete the painting with their own imagination.
