Charles Couper 1924-2018

"Painting is the poetry of sight." - Charles Alexander Couper

We're honored to pay tribute and display the works of acclaimed Artist, Charles Couper. Charles was a native of Portsmouth, New Hampshire but made his home in Canada in 1987. His studio home was nestled in Bear River, Nova Scotia.

Charles received his initial training as a student of Fine Art at Vesper George School of Art in Boston, MA, and subsequently taught there for 15 years. While attending classes at Vesper George during the winter, his summers were spent studying with Henry Hensche at the Cape Cod School of Art where principles of color perception and application as formulated by Charles Hawthorne were taught.

Charles was known for his representational still life paintings; often depicting objects from the maritime shoreline in oil and pastel.
